It gathers thirty contributions submitted through an open call asking how doctoral research has shaped the work and thinking of practitioners. The book asks, in an open-ended way, what impact and urgency a PhD carries, what it means, how it has changed practice — and whether creative practitioners need to pursue one at all. Acknowledging both the benefits and the limits research brings to artistic practice, it offers a broad view of the many forms that research can take.
