The Place to Be is Julie Chovin's photobook documenting roughly 220 nightclubs in Berlin between 2013 and 2020. Starting from the city's official 'club list,' she photographed the facades and entrances of clubs scattered across town — from 1a Rauschgift to Berghain to Zur Klappe — head-on and in daylight. The result is both a record of places already lost or soon to vanish to gentrification, and a set of eerily quiet images that seem to foretell lockdown.
