ETH 취리히의 건축·도시변환 석좌 뉴로프 NEWROPE 소속 교수진과 학생, 협력자들의 만남에서 탄생한 『Working on Transformation』은 새로운 형태의 비판적 디자인 교육을 모색하는 책입니다. 이 책은 '기획하다(to project)', '경험하다(to experience)', '배열하다(to sequence)', '활성화하다(to activate)'라는 네 개의 동사를 중심으로 구성되며, 각 챕터에서 동사를 두 번씩 다룹니다. 한 번은 건축과 도시변환 분야의 기존 실천을 맥락적으로 조사하는 방식으로, 또 한 번은 그 실천들을 새로운 형태로 재현해보는 사변적 초대로 다룹니다. 소품과 퍼포먼스 모형 같은 유형적 도구를 활용한 이 탐구는 단순한 협업의 기록을 넘어, 앞으로 있을 퍼포먼스를 위한 동반자로 기능합니다.

Working on Transformation grew out of encounters among the faculty, students, and collaborators of NEWROPE, ETH Zurich's chair of architecture and urban transformation, in search of a new kind of critical design education. The book is organized around four verbs — to project, to experience, to sequence, and to activate — each explored twice per chapter: once as a contextual survey of existing practice in architecture and urban transformation, and once as a speculative invitation to re-stage that practice in new form. Working with tangible tools such as props and performance models, this inquiry functions less as a record of past collaboration than as a companion for performances still to come.
