Philippe Weisbecker was born in Dakar in 1942, studied interior design in Paris, and moved to New York in 1968, where he worked as a draftsman at an architecture firm before turning to illustration at thirty, going on to work for major outlets including the New York Times, Time, and the New Yorker. In the 2000s he shifted his focus from commissioned work toward his own practice, and since returning to France in 2006 he has divided his time between Paris and Barcelona.
