This book traces the many ways Japanese art has aesthetically engaged with and reflected on change and impermanence. Weathered wood carvings, Hokusai's 'Great Wave,' and gold-lacquer-repaired tea ceramics appear alongside images of human life lived alongside water, cherry blossom festivals, and courtly butterfly dances.
