『한국의 디자이너 1: 신동혁—책』은 '책 속의 책'을 표방합니다. 책은 도시와 건축, 자연과 우주를 서술할 수는 있어도 그 내용을 제 크기로 담기는 어렵지만, 이 책은 24 × 35센티미터의 큰 판형 안에 신동혁이 작업한 책 14권을 1:1 비례 그대로 펼쳐 보입니다. 대부분 절판되었거나 공식 자료가 남아 있지 않은 책들로, 원본 PDF를 실제 크기로 싣는 일은 아카이브를 넘어서는 새로운 경험을 만듭니다. 디자이너 전용완은 원본 도안을 중심에, 저자들의 대화를 주변부에 두고, 활자와 그 운용을 책의 형식에 맞춰 반복하고 변화시키며 확장했습니다. 큰 판형에서 오차가 커지는 먹박 표지는 동판을 여러 조각으로 나눠 제작했고, 전면의 큰 서체와 책등의 작은 서체, 가타카나와 한글, 한자, 후면의 일러스트레이션이 균형을 이루도록 공을 들였습니다.

Donghyeok Shin—Book presents itself as a “book within a book.” A book can describe cities, architecture, nature, and the cosmos but can rarely hold its content at full size; this one lays out fourteen books Shin worked on at 1:1 scale within a large 24 × 35 cm format. Most are out of print or lack official materials, and printing the original PDFs at actual size creates a new experience beyond an archive. Designer Yongwan Jeon places the original layouts at the center and the authors’ conversation at the margins, repeating, varying, and expanding the typography to fit the form of the book. The black-foil cover, where errors grow in a large format, was produced with a copper plate divided into several pieces, with care taken to balance the large type on the front, the small type on the spine, the katakana, Hangul, and Chinese characters, and the illustration on the back.
